On the evening of November 16th, the Maryland Science Center in Baltimore was aglow with hope and inspiration as KeraLink International hosted Corneatopia: Eyes on the Future, a fundraising event dedicated to transforming the landscape of corneal blindness in underserved populations. With over 160 attendees – a full house – and an impressive $118,000 raised, including $24,000 for the impactful KeraKits program, the night underscored the power of collaboration in achieving a brighter future for global vision health.
The event brought together an extraordinary mix of innovators, entrepreneurs, and donors, all united in KeraLink’s mission to prevent, detect and treat corneal blindness in low- and middle-income communities. The dynamic Catherine Trigg-Jones of iWomanTV served as Master of Ceremonies, seamlessly guiding the evening’s celebrations along with President and CEO Michelle Bockman.
One of the highlights of the night was honoring three remarkable individuals who have made groundbreaking contributions to eye health:
- Professor Julie Kornfield received the Pioneer in Vision Technology Award for her groundbreaking advancements in the pursuit of accessible eye care solutions.
- Dr. Kunal Parikh was recognized with the Innovator in Global Vision Solutions Award, celebrating his dedication to eliminating preventable blindness.
- Dr. Umang Mathur was awarded the Visionary Leadership in Eye Health Award for his unwavering commitment to leading transformative efforts in eye care.
The generosity of the attendees was palpable throughout the night. The funds raised will significantly bolster KeraLink’s efforts. As KeraLink International continues to forge ahead in its mission to end corneal blindness, the success of Corneatopia serves as a testament to what can be achieved when communities unite around a shared vision. This event not only celebrated progress but also reinforced the urgency of expanding access to life-changing technologies and care.
